A Tale of Two Young Men

Enter Jake (27) and Tom (28).
It’s come to my attention that this blog and my podcast are helping to identify a growing army of devoted Christians in their mid-20s to mid-40s who want to know the Lord and are dissatisfied with establishment-pop-celebrity-driven Christianity.
While the masses of this age group appear to be content with status quo Christianity, there’s an increasing tribe — to use Seth Godin’s term — that I’ve had the privilege to interact with regularly who are interested in the deeper journey.
This blesses me greatly because when I was in my 20s and early 30s, there was virtually no one who was older who could relate to my quest for more of the Lord.
This brings me to the story of Jake and Tom, both in their late-20s.
It was a conference weekend. We had an off-site meeting where some of the speakers got together to fellowship. Jake and Tom were present.
A conversation ensued among some of the speakers. I was being asked about knowing the Lord. In answering, I talked about the indwelling life of Christ and The Eternal Purpose of God.
Jake, who came to “carry the bags” of one of the speakers, began to throw in his opinion in a bold display of SYI.

Your Questions About the Holy Spirit

Over the years, I’ve received tons of questions from my readers about the Holy Spirit.
Ten of the key ones have been . . .
1. what is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, exactly?
2. what’s the role of speaking in tongues?
3. is speaking in tongues the evidence of being baptized in the Spirit?
4. are spiritual gifts for today?
5. what’s the difference between a word of knowledge and a word of wisdom?
6. how does prophecy work today and can all Christians prophesy?
7. what is the five-fold ministry and how does it work?
8. how do we know the difference between the Holy Spirit’s work, the devil’s work, and the work of the human soul?
9. does the Holy Spirit do miracles today?
10. what do the gifts of the Spirit look like when operating in a church?

3 Killer Lessons from THE WALKING DEAD

“We are more willing to attack one another than to band together and fight the enemy.”
~ Lance Wallnau
In my December blog post, I outlined 4 sobering (and uncommon) observations about ISIS.
If you didn’t get a chance to read the entire article on my blog, there’s a link to it at the bottom of this one.
Now on to another current issue.
AMC’s TV drama The Walking Dead is the highest rated series in cable television history.
I’m not a zombie guy (though some mornings, I might resemble one).
Unlike many of my peers who possess a Y chromosome, slashy-burny-butcher-gore films don’t appeal to me.
It’s for this reason that I’ve stayed clear of watching The Walking Dead.
That is, until a friend told me that the show is largely about surviving in community over against blowing zombie carcasses to the moon.

90 Million Evangelicals

There are reportedly 90 million evangelicals in the USA today.
However, that number is decreasing as more and more Christians are becoming fed up with the savage behavior that many evangelicals have toward one another.
Many evangelicals, however, are moving beyond evangelicalism to a deeper walk with Jesus.
This “tribe” (to use Seth Godin’s term) is increasing in number every day.
They still hold to the four core tenants of classic evangelicalism, but they’ve gone beyond them to embrace some of the central, but neglected aspects of Scripture.
This group aren’t interested in reigniting the doctrinal wars of the early 20th century, and they stay clear of the mud-slinging that goes on in many evangelical circles today.
Instead, their desire is to know, follow, and love Jesus Christ and express His glory in the world.
